As we mentioned above, the Santa Cruz is available with two engine options. Standard under the hood is a 2.5-Liter direct-injected Inline-4 cylinder engine. This engine pushes out an estimated 190+ horsepower and 180+ lb-ft of torque. In addition, available to the Santa Cruz is a 2.5L direct-injected turbocharged I4 engine. This engine rips out an estimated 275+ horsepower and 310+ lb-ft of torque. The base engine is linked with an 8-speed hydraulic automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the turbocharged engine is coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The base engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This robust transmission provides smooth shifts for quick acceleration and maximum efficiency. It adds a ratio range at the top and bottom of the output speeds. This added range allows for greater propulsion off the line and also a more fuel-efficient and quieter ride on the highway. Greater throttle-response is provided by the individually controlled hydraulic channel torque converter. The dual-clutch 8-speed automatic mated to the turbocharged engine employs paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel, giving the driver the option for manual shifting control.
2022 Santa Cruz HTRAC AWD
Both of the aforementioned 2.5L I4 and 2.5L turbocharged I4 engines offer HTRAC all-wheel-drive. This multi-mode AWD system provides an electronic, variable-torque-split clutch with active torque control between the front and rear axles. This means that depending on the traction or lack thereof; the system will automatically redistribute torque to the axle with the most traction to safely keep the Santa Cruz heading in the right direction. For a more agile on-road driving experience, Sport mode sends more torque to the rear wheels. This provides a sportier drive with a higher level of performance. The wide variety of torque distribution options give the Santa Cruz optimal control in situations like hill starts, medium and high-speed cornering, and straight-line acceleration. If you have gear you need for a weekend adventure; the base engine is rated to tow up to 3,500 lbs, while the turbocharged AWD variant provides a satisfying 5,000 lbs of towing capacity.
